A series of keycap mockups, that I created, while learning more about 3D renders.
When you want to learn something, it’s always better to work on an actual project, rather than just trying to memorize it. So when I was improving my 3d skills, I decided to create this series of keycap mockups as exercise.
I’m using a mechanical keyboard every day and like that I can customize it, to fit my needs and preferences. People sell designs for keycaps online and often take photos of their products. But not everyone is an amazing photographer, or knows how to present their design in a way, that grabs peoples attention.
The mockups I created are easy to use and help visualize the design in a unique and stunning way.
The power of 3D
Creating mockups in photography often requires a time consuming setup. They then need to be edited to unite design and photo. Layer effects like highlights, shadows, masks and other features, need to be created manually. And if bigger changes need to be made, it’s hard to do, or requires a reshoot.
In 3D all of these things are not a problem. You can export shadows, highlights and pixel perfect masks automatically. Renders also have their drawbacks, but are generally more flexible than photos.
